At Words From Brazil, we believe in the power of Brazilian creativity to create stories that inspire, educate, and entertain the entire world. Our project, Brazil in its own words, is a bridge to bring the richness of Brazilian literature and our writers to international audience. We aim to promote and introduce Brazilian works into international markets by supporting the publication of classics and new writers, as well as adaptations for audiovisual media, and promoting events with artists. The project also includes an educational branch focused on teaching Portuguese through Brazilian literature, both for foreigners and for children of Brazilians living abroad, highlighting Portuguese as their heritage language.
We are passionate about the written word and its power to connect people and ideas. Our journey began in 2022, when the Brazilian cultural producer Vania Carvalho founded the Brazil in its Own Words project. In a short time, the project has already promoted important events in New York City to publicize the launch of great Brazilian literary masterpieces such as the new English translation of Macunaíma, by Mario de Andrade, and the book Crooked Plow (Torto Arado), by Itamar Vieira Junior. The project has the support of the New York Public Library (NYPL), where the events were held. The project has developed an educational branch to serve those interested in learning Portuguese through Brazilian Literature.
